April Birchbox Update

Home / Makeup / April Birchbox Update

As with most subscription boxes, we had some winners and some eh products this month. Although all of the products are sample or travel size, I was able to get multiple uses from each and form a pretty educated opinion about them.

I really enjoyed that in this month’s box they included brands that are ingredient-conscious as I am always happy to find more natural and equally effective alternatives to my current products. I have rated all of the products on a 1-5 point scale (5 being the best). Hope you enjoy…

Au Naturals Cosmetic Trio Set- 1/5

tripic

Definitely the most disappointing product of the group. Not only was the sample size packaging not functional but the products themselves didn’t last on my skin for more than a few minutes if at all. The lipstick patched off almost immediately and neither the blush nor the eye shadow even showed up on my skin, how is that even possible?! (I have yet to find a great natural makeup brand, please let me know if you have in the comments!)

Amika Silken Up Dry Conditioner- 5/5

amika

This will most likely be a repurchase for me! I also love their dry shampoo. They both smell amazing and work wonders. The pair together are perfect for my day 2 or 3 hair when I need some volume at the top but also my ends are looking dry and dull. Adds just the right amount of shine and hydration.

Marcelle 3-in-1 Micellar Solution- 4/5

marcellemicellar

I was so excited to see this in my box because my Simple Micellar water is too big to bring in my carry-on. I’ve only used this once as I’m saving the rest to pack with me on upcoming trips but from what I could tell, it won’t replace my Simple Micellar water but it’ll do the job while traveling. The only reason it gets a 4/5 is because this size comes only as a Birchbox exclusive size and that is really the most appealing thing about it for me.

Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask- 3/5

hairmask

This product was fine, it made my hair feel soft and hydrated without being weighed down. However, there was nothing spectacular about it and that’s how I feel about most of the hair masks that come in my boxes. An amazing smell would even push it up a few notches in my book! It does the job but was a bit underwhelming for me.

Derma e Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask- 2/5

dermaemask

It’s not the mask, it’s me! I love this brand but this particular product was a bit too drying for me. It left my skin feeling stripped and tight (and not in a good firming way). It does say on the packaging that it is for normal-oily skin but I still had to try it. I will say though, it had micro exfoliating beads in it and I did appreciate that it was giving a little 2-in-1 exfoliation.
