How To Make Your Makeup Last Longer

If you’re not already taking the time to Prime + Set your mind is about to be blown. Using the ‘foundation sandwich’ technique (that’s a real thing) will make your makeup last longer and stay looking fresh all day!

Prime-

After applying your daily moisturizer and waiting 10-15 mins (depending on how fast your lotion takes to sink in) you move onto primer. Along with increasing the wear-time of your foundation you primers can also help with certain skin concerns leaving you with a perfect canvas for foundation. As most of us have experienced, our skin can sometimes seem to ‘eat’ our makeup throughout the day. And that’s because it kind of does! It also wipes off onto other materials or your hands much easier when applied straight to the skin. The primer asks as a barrier and a tacky surface for foundation to stick to.

Here are a few primers based on skin concerns:

(Disclaimer:  I have dry skin so not all of these products are ideal for me. Therefore I have turned to other reviews and researching ingredients to find a few of these recommendations.)

Set-

And now for the other half of that “foundation sandwich’ the SET. Setting your makeup is equally if not more important than the priming step when it comes to making your makeup last longer.

For every cream product (concealer, foundation etc) applying a powder product on top will lock in your makeup and make it last a lot longer. Once your foundation is ‘sandwiched’ between your primer and setting powder it is not going to budge! As with everything skin care and makeup related, to get the best results have have to find your perfect combination of products.

Here are a few powders that I recommend:

make your makeup last longer

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder– $5

make your makeup last longer

Bare Minerals Mineral Veil– $22

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder– $38

Bonus Step- Spray

To avoid the powdery/cakey look AND to make your makeup last even longer consider a setting spray. This is also perfect for those of us who love a dewy, glowy look.

A few of my fave setting sprays:

MAC Fix+ Finishing Spray– $24

Milani Make It Last Setting Spray– $10

Hopefully now you have a couple new tips to help you make your makeup last longer! Let me know if you have any favorite products in any of these categories that work well for you- I’d love to give them a try!
