The Minimalist’s Skin Care Routine
The only 5 skin care products that you NEED.
I absolutely love the idea of living a minimalist lifestyle and in a lot of ways, I do. But when it comes to skin care products I am a far ways away from it! To be fair, it’s my passion and my job to try and review new products to you! BUT if you’re looking to simplify your skin care routine or are already living a minimalist lifestyle, here are the only 5 skin care products that you actually need aka the minimalist’s skin care routine.
The key things your cleanser MUST do for you is:
Thoroughly cleanse off all makeup.
Leave skin feeling comfortable, not tight nor greasy.
It must be something you enjoy using. The more you like it the more likely you are to use it.
Another tip for cleansing is to always double cleanse. For my minimalists, using the same cleaner for your first and second cleanse is totally fine. Double cleansing is important because the first cleanse will clean all of the makeup, dirt and grime off while the second will deeply cleanse your skin.
A more affordable option:
Serum is IMPORTANT. This is where you get results and start to see your skin transform. Depending on what your skin care needs and concerns are, your serum will help target that issue. I’ve linked anti-aging serums above however there’s a serum out there for just about any skin type and concern.
A luxurious nighttime cream should be a staple in everyone’s routine. This one from reNeu smells and feels so expensive, but it’s surprisingly affordable. For extra AM hydration this can also be used under your SPF.
BONUS: a little bit goes a long way so this tub will last you months.
Whatever your skin type is, be sure to choose a moisturizer without SPF and that leaves your skin feeling nourished all the way until morning!
Here’s where we save a ton of room in your makeup bag!
This is your AM Moisturizer, Primer, SPF and Tinted Moisturizer all in one. PLUS it has anti-aging ingredients so it’s basically like a serum too!
It contains ‘smart shade’ technology to blend in with your skin tone but let’s be real, a universal shade really isn’t ideal. It works for me and most light-medium skin tones but if you have a darker complexion I would recommend you go swatch it in person at Sephora.
Exfoliating is a crucial part of a great skin care routine, so it’s definitely not something that should be skipped EVEN for a minimalist. In order to keep your skin glowing, clear and youthful you must be exfoliating. There’s a number of ways you could be doing this- I’ve linked my favorite manual+chemical exfoliant (ExfoliKate).
You can also use an at home manual exfoliation tool like this Crystal Smooth at-home microdermabrasion tool or for a super mild exfoliant, a wash cloth.
